Torii is a Japanese-accented gastro-bar located in the leafy suburbia of TTDI, dedicated to the twin pleasures of yakitori and divine whisky.While our yakitori menu featuring grilled skewered meats, seafood and different vegetables take a notable centrestage; a range of unique Japanese -inspired dishes also share the culinary spotlight. Our food is complemented with the largest range of Japanese single malt whiskies on offer in Kuala Lumpur. The story behind the name 'Torii' is tri-faceted. Firstly, Torii is a play on the Japanese word "yakitori", which essentially means grilled chicken. Through time, yakitori became the all-encompassing name for grilled skewered food and is now firmly entrenched as one of the most loved genres of Japanese cuisine. Torii also alludes to Mr Shinjiro Torii, widely regarded as the father of the Japanese whisky industry. He founded the now widely respected pioneer Yamazaki distillery, as well as the Suntory company. Finally, Torii in Japanese also means a traditional Japanese gate leading into a shrine. When you walk through our cast iron swing door, you enter an atmospheric, wood accented sanctuary where one can pay homage to good food made from the embers of a fire, together with the fine ambers of the world.
Torii specializes in yakitori, one of the most loved genres of Japanese cuisine. We offer our version of a beak to tail dining experience when it comes to serving the various parts of the chicken, well-seasoned and infused with the smoky flavours from traditional charcoal grilling.
We also serve other cuts of meats like premium wagyu beef, fresh seafoods and vegetables. In addition, our chefs offer more modern interpretations of classic dishes to share, as well as selected noodle and rice dishes. Last but not least, Torii in collaboration with the artisan ice-cream maker Forty Licks, has created a range of ice-cream flavours unique to Torii.
We can also present bespoke classic kaiseki menus upon request, Whilst Japanese accented, these menus will also showcase cooking techniques and ingredients of other cuisines. Our guiding principle being the utmost respect of fresh and quality ingredients, prepared lovingly and imaginatively.
Torii offers the largest selection of Japanese whiskies in Malaysia, rounded off with classic Scottish Single Malt whiskies which have been carefully curated. You can embark on a journey from the peaty and smokey malts of windswept Islay, to the floral, fresh malts of the Scottish Highlands, and finally to the precise, balanced and honeyed Malts of the various prefectures of Japan. Our bar also offers a specially created list of Japanese whisky-based cocktails, each one blended with ingredients to showcase the individual flavours of that particular whisky. Uniquely, these cocktails also incorporate Japanese ingredients like the piquant aromatic yuzu lime from Japan as well as a Japanese syrup, Gomme. To round off our drink offerings we also feature a range of beers on tap as well as a concise wine selection from around the world.
